二十四節氣 24 Solar Terms

A personal project in 2014. I designed and illustrated animals for the traditional East Asian 24 solar terms.

For each term, I merged the featured vegetable or fruit, or the special environmental changes of that weather into the animal.

Not all the terms has a related animal, and usually several terms share the same vegetables. I tried to select and arrange them for better design and visual diversity.

清明

QingMing (Clear and Bright) | The paulownia begins to bloom, Rainbows begin to appear.

• 桐始華：桐，木名，今始華者，乃白桐耳。
• 田鼠化為鴽︰鴽音如，鵪鶉屬，鼠陰類。陽氣盛則鼠化為鴽，陰氣盛則鴽復化為鼠。
• 虹始見︰先儒以為雲薄漏日，日照雨滴，則虹生焉。

狐狸ｘ桐花ｘ彩虹ｘ三炷香

清明時節天氣逐漸晴朗萬物開始生長，大地一片清爽明媚，因此以『清明』為名。民間也有著出門踏青、掃墓祭祖、種植樹草等習俗，是一個充滿神秘色彩的節氣。設計圖面以東方神秘色彩濃厚的狐狸為主，顏色以綠色為底加入彩虹調整色調，做出清晰透明感，耳朵裡融入桐花元素，象徵著蓬勃生機、春意盎然的大地正在甦醒。

During Clear and Bright, the weather gradually turns sunny and clear, all creatures are starting to grow , and the land is brisk and beautiful, thus the name “Clear and Bright”. There are also popular customs such as going out for a walk in nature, visit and make ritual offerings at the tombs of ancestors, and planting trees and plants. It is a mysterious solar term.

The design is mainly based ob fox with strong Eastern mysticism. The colors are based on green with the addition of rainbow to adjust the tone and create a sense of transparency. Elements of Tung Blossom is integrated to the fox’s ears to symbolize the awakening of a vigorous and spring-land.

顏色設計得真美~

配合清明節，圖中圖是『三炷香』；另外還有代表『重生』的鳳凰，寓意深遠。

春季最喜歡小狐狸，造型和顏色都符合胃口。
