二十四節氣 24 Solar Terms

A personal project in 2014. I designed and illustrated animals for the traditional East Asian 24 solar terms.

For each term, I merged the featured vegetable or fruit, or the special environmental changes of that weather into the animal.

Not all the terms has a related animal, and usually several terms share the same vegetables. I tried to select and arrange them for better design and visual diversity.

霜降

• 豺乃祭獸：豺狼在這個時節開始捕獵，並將獵物陳列在窩內，儲備以過冬。古人認其與「人們會用新穀的收穫來祭天」一樣，稱豺狼以獵物祭獸，再以獸祭天。
• 草木黃落：此時樹葉漸黃而枯落。
• 蟄蟲鹹俯：咸，皆也；俯，垂頭也。此時寒氣漸增，蟲皆垂頭入冬眠。

羊ｘ山藥ｘ柿子ｘ楓葉

秋季的最後一個節氣，酷暑全消，沿海地區的颱風季也跟著結束。大地呈現一片深秋景象，似乎告訴冬天的腳步近了。設計圖面以羊和秋天盛產的柿子、柿葉圖紋互相結合，羊角和四肢加入山藥元素，眼睛及尾巴顏色也取自柿葉，食慾之秋讓秋季的代表動物不可避免的載滿來自食物的靈感呢。

The last solar term of autumn. The summer heat is all gone, along with the coastal area’s typhoon season. The late autumn scene of the land seems to be suggesting that the winter is near.

The design uses goat and persimmon, a seasonal fruit in autumn, with the integration of persimmon leaf pattern and the addition of Chinese Yam elements to the goat’s horns and legs. The colors of eyes and tail also come from persimmon leaf. The autumn appetize inevitably pack the representative animal of autumn with inspirations from food.

圖中圖是楓葉，黑橘配色正好呼應月底的萬聖節；隱藏特殊片為柿子。

繪者取柿子的「桔」為山羊的主色，壯碩的軀幹相當吸引人。由於形狀特別且色系相近，費時約23分鐘。
