二十四節氣 24 Solar Terms

A personal project in 2014. I designed and illustrated animals for the traditional East Asian 24 solar terms.

For each term, I merged the featured vegetable or fruit, or the special environmental changes of that weather into the animal.

Not all the terms has a related animal, and usually several terms share the same vegetables. I tried to select and arrange them for better design and visual diversity.

• 苦菜秀：《爾雅》曰：「不榮而實者謂之秀，榮而不實者謂之英」。
• 靡草死：靡草，葶藶之屬。
• 麥秋至：原為「小暑至」，後《金史志》改「麥秋至」。

水牛ｘ荔枝ｘ麥穗ｘ小麥

夏季的第二個節氣，此時氣候穩定雨水充沛，夏季作物的果實雖尚未成熟但已開始飽滿。設計圖面以亞洲農業文化中最具耕作代表性的牛為代表動物，將麥穗及此時節盛產的荔枝融入於牛的四肢、牛角、耳朵與背部和腹部，象徵著努力耕耘才能有所收穫。

The second solar term of summer. The climate is stable and the rain is abundant. Although the fruits of summer crops are not yet ripe, they are staring  to be full. 

The design uses water buffalo, the most representative farming animal in Asian agriculture, and blends ear of wheat and seasonal litchi into its legs, horns, ears, back, and belly to symbolize that people reap what they sow.
