二十四節氣 24 Solar Terms

A personal project in 2014. I designed and illustrated animals for the traditional East Asian 24 solar terms.

For each term, I merged the featured vegetable or fruit, or the special environmental changes of that weather into the animal.

Not all the terms has a related animal, and usually several terms share the same vegetables. I tried to select and arrange them for better design and visual diversity.

秋分

QiuFen (Autumnal Equinox) | Day time is as long as night time; green onion, pear.

• 雷始收聲：相對於春分第二候”雷乃發聲”，古人認為雷是因為陽氣盛而發聲，秋分後陰氣開始盛，所以不再打雷。
• 蟄蟲培戶：培，細泥也。小蟲用細泥封住穴口，以避免寒氣入侵。
• 水始涸：涸，乾竭之意。此時不易下雨，河水開始乾竭。

螃蟹ｘ蒜苗ｘ梨子ｘ柿子

秋分這天日夜等長，過了秋分後白晝時間越來越短，此時真正進入秋季，天氣也開始涼了。設計圖面以秋天美食－螃蟹為代表，將蒜、薑、梨等蔬果加入其中，象徵這個讓人食指大動的時節，在大啖美食的同時也別忘記攝取養生食物。

The day and night are equally long in Autumn Equinox. Daytime will be shorter and shorter after Autumn Equinox. It is officially autumn and the weather is starting to be cooler. Autumn Equinox is the harvesting period of autumn ploughing, thus it’s a very busy season for farmers.

The design uses crab, an autumn delicacy, as representation with the addition of fruits and vegetables like garlic, ginger, and pear, symbolizing the mouthwatering season. Don’t forget to also consume food that are healthy to your body while enjoying all the delicacies.
